Alia X51 Instant Filtered Boiling, Chilled and Sparkling Water Tap

Yes. The mixer handle gives you hot and cold water for washing hands, rinsing and cleaning, like any kitchen tap. That water comes straight from the mains and isn't filtered.

The boiling, chilled and sparkling water from the touch panel all goes through the F5000L filter first.

Boiling water can be set anywhere from 35°C to 98°C. 98°C is just below the 100°C of a rolling boil, hot enough for cooking, and lower settings suit green tea, which is often made at about 80°C.

Chilled and sparkling water pour at 8–12°C, cold enough to drink straight away.

Yes. A regulator on top of the CO₂ cylinder under your sink sets the fizz, from a light fizz to a livelier one. Set it once and every glass pours at that strength.

Up to 1.6 L in one pour, which is about eight 200ml cups. The Bollente tank holds 2.4 L, so after a big pour it needs time to heat more.

The boiling water has a child lock. Hold the lock button for two seconds, then hold the boiling button to pour.

The lock can't be switched off, and the tap has an anti-scald design. Boiling water can still burn, so keep children well back while you pour.

It uses an Alia CO₂ cylinder of food-grade carbon dioxide, labelled E 290. E 290 is the food additive code for carbon dioxide, so it's the grade used in food and drink.

The tap is WaterMark certified (WMK26897), meets AS 3718 and is marked lead free. WaterMark is Australia's certification scheme for plumbing products, and AS 3718 is the Australian standard for water supply tapware. The Bollente boiling unit is separately certified as a filtered boiling water appliance.

Every 8–12 months on average use, so roughly once a year. A new F5000L filter is $150, including GST and delivery.

In a typical home, one cylinder lasts about 6–8 months, so most homes use about two a year. A busy office may need one sooner.

The X51 uses an Alia CO₂ cylinder, not a SodaStream one. Order a new cylinder.

A space 700mm wide, 580mm deep and 450mm high. It holds the Bollente boiling unit, the Fizz-X chilled and sparkling unit, the filter and the CO₂ cylinder, so leave room to reach the filter and cylinder for changes.

Three, one each for the X51 control unit, the Bollente boiling unit and the Fizz-X chilled and sparkling unit. Together they draw up to 1900 W, the most they use while heating and chilling at once, so each unit needs its own standard powerpoint in the cupboard.

Yes. The X51 connects to your hot and cold water like a standard kitchen tap. A licensed plumber must install it, along with the filter and the units under the sink.

No. The spout turns a full 360° and can't be locked in one position. If it suits your sink, the X51 can be installed turned 90° to the left, so the mixer handle faces you.
